Falcon Collection

Thomas Adolphus Falcon, a talented landscape artist and photographer, was born in Yorkshire in 1872. After studying classics and languages at Trinity College, Cambridge, he moved to Braunton, Devon. His passion for Dartmoor led him to document its beauty through photography. In 1900, he published "Dartmoor Illustrated," a collection of 100 photographs capturing the moor's landscapes and landmarks. This book, along with his later work "Pictorial Dartmoor," offers a glimpse into the past, allowing us to compare the moor's appearance over a century ago. Falcon's contributions to Dartmoor's understanding include his photographic work for William Crossing's "The Ancient Stone Crosses of Dartmoor" and his research on Dartmoor's graves, although some of his theories, such as the Cater's Beam, have since been proven incorrect.
