Royal Albert Bridge

The construction of the Royal Albert Railway Bridge that will cross the River Tamar from Plymouth to Saltash. The picture shows the erection of the second Truss which was floated along the river using two barges and many men. Local people often refer to the bridge as the Brunel after the engineer who designed it. The first train travelled over the bridge during April 1859.
