Hound Tor

Hound Tor

Shirley Taylor, the photographers daughter aged about 13 years, sat on some rocks at Hound Tor (1,130ft). Hound Tor is considered one of Dartmoors greatest rock piles and is steeped in lore and legend of Dartmoor. It derives its name from the shape of the blocks on the summit, weathered into forms resembling the heads of dogs. Also supposedly the setting for Arthur Coan Doyle's "Hounds of the Baskervilles"
