River Yealm Steps

River Yealm Steps

The River Yealm rises in marshy land about 1,450 feet above sea-level, and flows just over 12 miles to the English Channel. The photograph was taken on 4/05/1940. Closer inspection shows several visitors inspecting the Steps of the Yealm - these are the stones of the old crossing place. It is possible this was a visit of a group like the Devonshire Association, although the transactions for this year do not record a Devonshire Association visit.
