Sheeps Tor

This 1914 photograph is of Sheeps Tor, also known as Shittistor. It stands magnificently at 1,200 feet above sea-level. It is reputedly the home of the pixies. Pisky House is a cave on the tor where vllagers would leave small offerings to attract the favour of the pixies. During the Civil War it was used as a hiding-place for a member of the royalist Elford family. Apparently he decorated the walls of the cave with frescoes to while away the time - all lost now, alas.
