Fingle Bridge

Taken on 15/08/1943 of the east side of Fingle Bridge looking up stream on the river Teign. Fingle bridge dates back to Elizabethan times, being a major crossing point over the River Teign between Drewsteignton and Moretonhampstead. It was built as a packhorse bridge to serve the industries of the gorge, such as corn milling at Fingle Mill and the production of charcoal, tan bark and fuel from the woods. This beautiful valley is now managed by the National Trust and is a popular picnic and walking area.
