Penn Beacon summit

Penn Beacon summit

This image, taken in 1914, is of Pen or Penn Beacon, a cairn standing at a height of 427 metres on Pen Hill, on the south west edge of Dartmoor. The cairn was originally thought to indicate the burial ground of a local chieftain. Penn Beacon is visible from Plymouth Hoe and a fine view of south west Devon can be had from this point. There are also many remnants on bronze age activity in the vicinity.
