Cairn Sharpitor north-west stone row

Taken on 24/02/1940, the picture shows a cairn circle NW of Sharpitor. These ancient burial places are common on the moor but differ in construction from place to place. All have been investigated and disturbed by earlier generations so it is difficult for archaeologists now to appreciate how and why they were built originally.
