Granite rail junction on the Haytor Granite Railway
Photograph taken 06-1967. The granite tramway shown here served the five quarries in the Haytor area. Granite was quarried from here and taken by the tramway to link with a canal at Teigngrace and then on to the river Teign. Wagons were drawn by teams of horses , with the wheels of the wagons fitting over the flanged granite rails. Haytor granite was used in the construction of many famous buildings in London including London Bridge.
