Vixen Tor
This photograph was taken in 1912 of Vixen tor. This the highest rock mass on Dartmoor standing at 52 ft above the ground on the north side and 93 ft on the south side where the ground is lower, from where this photograph has been taken. On the summit, which is very difficult to climb, there are 3 rock basins. It has been thought to resemble the Egyptian sphinx and is also linked to the legend of the witch Vixana. In recent years it has been the subject of a dispute over access.
