Brisworthy Stone Circle
This photograph, taken on the 17/05/1937, shows Brisworthy stone circle. There are a number of stone circles on Dartmoor, including others at Merrivale and Fernworthy. They are assumed to have some type of religious or ceremonial function, and archaeological investigation has found that fires were lit within the circles enclosure. Brisworthy stone circle has been restored and many stones re-erected during the Victorian period. Some of the remaining stones in this picture may not, therefore, be original.
