Moretonhampstead Almshouses
15/08/1943 The almshouses are situated on the old Exeter road and date from 1637. They are built in a Jacobean style with an open gallery with five arches each side of the gallery entrance. Originally they were built as the workhouse and later the poorhouse. In the 1930s they were in decay and condemned but were purchased by the town and renovated. They can still be seen in Moretonhampstead today.
