Stuart Lang at kistvaen on side of Royal Hill

Taken in 1913, this photograph shows one of the kistvaen (more commonly known as cists) on Royal Hill with its retaining circle. The collapsed kistvaen in the centre can just be glimpsed. It is thought that these kistvaens were interment or burial pits. Unfortunately previous generations have explored and plundered these sites, destroying what archaeological evidence there may have been.
