Belstone Manor Pound
18/07/1934 This photograph shows a manor pound which would have served to contain animals such as sheep and cattle. This pound would have served the whole community rather than an individual or family. It also shows the pound cottage with characteristic wooden sash windows. Email from Shirley Cooper - "The house behind the Pound which you refer to as Pound Cottage is, in fact, Rose Cottage built around 1915 for my grandfather, Bertram Gratton who lived there with his wife Sarah Louisa and children ? Marjorie (my mother), Edna and Leslie until February 1970 when unfortunately he died in a fire at Exeter Hospital. The house was later sold. Also, to the left of the photo are the tea rooms ? see da103300. Also see da994371."
