Boringdon Hall

The history of Borringdon Hall stems from the Domesday Book and the name Borringdon comes from the saxon "Burth-Y-Don" meaning enchanted place on the hill. It used to belong to the Priory of St Peter of Plympton until the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539. The manor was remodelled in the late 1500's to traditional Elizabethan design and it was completed in 1587. Borringdon Hall is a 15th century grade 1 listed building now in use as a hotel. It is 7 miles from Plymouth. Past visitors have included Sir Walter Raleigh, Sir Francis Drake and Queen Elizabeth I.
