Doe Tor kist
This image was taken in May 1945 of a kistvaen at Doe Tor on the north western edge of Dartmoor. A Kistvaen is generally a rectangular structure normally used for burial purposes, and formed from stone slabs set on edge, and covered by one or more horizontal slabs or capstones. Cists may be built on the surface or sunk into the ground. This kist or kistvaen stands just to the east of the tor near the Doebrook. It only consists of one side and two end stones within the remains of a small cairn.
