A Dartmoor Prison Boundstone
This photograph shows a Dartmoor Prison boundstone. These were used to mark the boundary of the prison at Princetown. The type of boundstone shown in the picture dates from around 1867 when the prison extended its boundaries by a further one thousand acres. These stones are notable by the inscription of "DCP" and an up arrow. The letters "DCP" are an abbreviation of Directors of Convict Prison, and can often be found used in the legend of old maps. This boundstone was photographed on the 11/04/1937.
