Fingle Bridge
Taken on 15/08/1943 looking down the steep wooded Teign valley with Fingle Bridge in the bottom. Above the Teign valley is the hill fort of Prestonbury castle fort. This strategic fort dominates the Teign valley together with another ancient hillfort at Cranbrook Castle, which is on the opposite side of the river. The fort has strong triple defences enclosing an area of 4 acres (1.6ha). The fort has yet to be excavated. Fingle Bridge today is a popular picnic and walking spot on the eastern edge of Dartmoor.
