Duke of Bedford's statue and the Court Gate
Taken in February 1971 of the seventh Duke of Bedford's statue which stands in Tavistock's Bedford Square outside the Guildhall at the centre of the town. The Guildhall was built in 1848 on the Duke's orders, and the statue completed in 1864. Tavistock owes much of its development with its links with the Bedford dynasty which started in 1694. The building to the left is known as the Court Gate.
