Marchants Bridge over the River Mewy
This picture was taken on 20/03/1940 of the bridge over the River Meavy, also known as the Mewy or Mew, near the village of Meavy. It is an old packhorse type of bridge and below it lies the original crossing point of Marchants Ford stepping stones. The bridge is formed of one high arch typical of bridges on the lower slopes of Dartmoor. The high arch allows for winter flooding.
