River Lyd waterfall

Taken in June 1949 at the River Lyd waterfall on the occasion of a Devonshire Association excursion. Bruce Oliver was then the president of the Association. The Devonshire Association was founded in 1862 and its formal objectives are to further the study of Science, Literature and the Arts in relation to the county of Devon and to promote the exchange of ideas with a view to the education of the public. The Lydford gorge and waterfalls lie just due south of the village of Lydford on the western edge of Dartmoor. The gorge is now managed by the National Trust.
