Eastern Beacon, large cairn

Eastern Beacon, large cairn

Taken in August 1942 of a large cairn at Eastern Beacon also known as Ugborough Beacon, on Ugborough Moor on the southern edge of Dartmoor. A Cairn is a mound of stones erected as a memorial or marker. There is a fine view from here of South Devon and into Cornwall, although there remains differing views as to whether this point was ever used as a beacon fire point.
