Standing Stone at Drizzlecombe
Robert Burnard, another Dartmoor photographer, records finding all the Drizzlecombe menhirs prostrate. It was largely thanks to his efforts that they were re-erected on July 21st and 22nd 1893 by Messrs. Turpin & Sons of Plymouth, and with the support of his fellow Dartmoor enthusiasts, Revs. S. Baring-Gould, W.A.G. Gray and Mr. R. Hansford Worth. Robert Burnard recorded this event in his own photograph. This Taylor photograph was taken in November 1935. You can glimpse the photographer's shadow in the low autumn sunlight to the left of the picture.
