Three barrows

Three barrows

Taken in May 1942, looking north west towards the Three Barrows (464 metres), on Ugborough moor from Brent Fore hill on the Southern edge of Dartmoor. They are like man made tors. There is a central cairn with a diameter of over 30 metres and a cairn either side slightly smaller. A barrow or cairn was an ancient burial chamber, a mound of earth covered and marked with stones. Brent Fore Hill is sometimes called "Homer Hill".
