Hangershell rocks

Hangershell rocks

Hangershiel or Hangershell rocks (1,142 ft). They lie just north west of Butterdon Hill. The spelling in 1500 was 'Hanger's Shiel' and 3 centuries later Hangershill. The clitter lying about is indicative of the tors former dimensions. The tor stands prominently above the valley of Butter Brook.
