Powdermills from Bellever

07-1969. Gunpowder was manufactured at Powdermills, starting in 1844. The gunpowder was used in mines and for military use. The remote location near Bellever and Two bridges was ideal for this type of industry. Water was supplied by a leat and peat used to dry the gunpowder. The mills closed in the late 1890's and today it houses a visitor attraction and pottery.
