Still tower at Tavistock
Taken in 1971 of the Still tower within part of the cloister walling of the original Abbey, which had first been established in 960. Tavistock takes its name from the Tavy which rises on West Dartmoor and passes beneath 4 bridges in Tavistock. This is looking towards the 3rd bridge, Abbey bridge and along the riverside walk of the Tavy. The wall is part of the Abbey limits. The Still Tower was where monks used to distill their medicines and potions.
