The Taylor Family and friends at Grimspound Hut Circle
This photograph was taken on 11/10/1934. It shows the Taylor family and friends enjoying a day out at Grimspound. The photograph was presumably taken by Sydney Taylor Junior, as his wife is pictured to the right. Grimspound is probably the best known prehistoric settlement. Pictured here is a hut circle or round house. There are 24 small hut circles at Grimspound, which are enclosed by a perimeter wall and have a south facing entrance. This entrance points towards Hambeldon Tor. It is likely that Grimspound was used to keep livestock rather than as dwellings for people. The ground would not have been suitable for cultivation nor its position, on the slopes of s hill, defensible.
