Observation Post No. 15
Marjorie Taylor, the photographers wife standing by Observation post no. 15, on the northern part of Dartmoor. This is the best known of the observation posts as it stands at the end of the old military road on the Ockment Hill and is the starting point for many people to wlak to Cranmere Pool. Today the road is falling into disrepair and less people drive out here. Ever since the nineteenth century the military have used Dartmoor for their exercises and manoeuvres which include live firing. The northern part of the moor is divided into three firing ranges; Okehampton, Willsworthy and Merrivale. When firing occurs numerous red flags are flown from prominent hilltops and tors and various observation posts are manned to ensure nobody inadvertently strays into the line of fire.
