Devonshire Association outing to Cholwich Town Farmhouse
The ancient farmhouse of Cholwich Town is named after the Cholwich family who used to own it. Hoskins records that they lived here from soon after 1200 until 1835 when the last of the family died. He adds that: "The farmstead itself is one of the best examples of a moorland yeoman's house that one can find anywhere round Dartmoor, a rock-like structure of moorstone dating from the late 15th century - early 16th century." The photograph was taken on 12/06/1935.
