It is possible that a church existed on this site since Saxon times but the present parish church of St Peter, St Paul and St Thomas of Canterbury was rebuilt during the 13th century. The story goes that this rebuilding was by William de Tracey in penance for his involvement in the murder of Thomas Becket.
