Vogwell Farm, Manaton

Vogwell Farm in recent years. Vogwell or Bogwell, was earlier known as Foghille, meaning Foggy hill-pasture. Vogwell is an ancient settlement and Vogwell lake is referred to in a Saxon document in Exeter Cathedral library. The farmhouse, modernised in recent times, was probably built in the sixteenth century with string courses of bricks still remaining in two of the chimneys.
