Smoking out bees

A.R. Hunt, who purchased Foxworthy in the 1880s, seen here smoking out bees from straw bee skips. These skips, or 'skeps', were kept in alcoves in barn walls, or specially constructed bee boles, a number of which can still be seen on Manaton farms.
