Susan Neck
This photograph is of **Susan Neck**, a well known Manaton figure during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Susan was born at Lime Street, Moretonhampstead on the 4th February 1865. She was the third child of Luke and Emma Neck. They had 10 children - 9 daughters and 1 son. She was married on the 15th August 1885 to **George Colman Mortimore** at Manaton Parish Church. After this the couple lived at **Neadon**, Manaton. They were married for 24 years. After George's death in 1909, Susan was married again to **James Stevens**. They were married at Newton Abbot Registry Office on the 13th May 1911. Susan died aged 71 at Water Cottages, Manaton on 24th July 1936. Susan had 4 children - William, Florence, Beatrice Jane and John. Florence married a **Robert Hitchens** at Manaton in 1906. Later in their marriage, Hitchens was appointed **Quartermaster** on the ill-fated **Titanic**. **It was Hitchens who was at the wheel when the ship struck the iceburg**.
