RAF Harrowbeer

Domestic Site No. 11 has been fenced off, rather then being reclaimed for farming use, and some temporary brick buildings remain. The picture shows steps leading to the plinth of the northernmost of the four barrack huts (officers and sergeants had separate accommodation on the same site). These Laing Huts were made of timber clad with plasterboard and covered externally with felt sheeting. The airmens' quarters would comprise a single room with 24 beds. In the middle of the hut would be a Romesse type stove, to heat the room and a kettle. Each group of two barracks was serviced by a nearby latrine building.
