RAF Harrowbeer
The north western loop of the bulk petrol installation. This may be the base of the pumping house which would pump aviation fuel to the pumps where the bowser would be filled. The fuel tanks were buried in a concrete walled pit on the island behind the concrete stand to make them blastproof and splinterproof. The fuel tanks at RAF Harrowbeer had a capacity of 48,000 gallons - possibly four 12,000 gallon tanks - giving a minimum six week supply. On the opposite side of the circle, was a similar concrete bay, where fuel tankers could park to top up the tanks.
