RAF Harrowbeer
This circular, brick built pillbox, with concrete roof, has four rifle slits and is amongst the buildings on the technical site. The image was taken through a rifle slit using flash photography. The construction of the pillbox can clearly be seen. It is built with a central circular hollow column (now infilled with peat!). Large concrete lintels cross from the central column to the outer walls to support the reinforced concrete roof. The centre of the column was open providing an anti-aircraft emplacement. This structure clearly played an important role in the airfield defences.
