RAF Harrowbeer

RAF Harrowbeer

This site at Whistley, lies off the western perimeter track near the threshhold to runway 11. The site consisted of seven "frying pan" type parking bays for aircraft, two covered over with steel overblister hangars. The overblister hangar was basically an arch with a span of 65 feet, length of 45 feet and height 19 foot 10 inches, constructed of a sectional welded steel frame covered with corrugated iron sheeting. One of the overblister hangars was located at the end of this wide road where the vehicles are parked. Also on this site was the fuzing point, where bombs would be brought on a tractor driven trolley, from the bomb store on the north western edge of the field to have fuses fitted.
