Shipley Clay works
The works originally was from peat from which oil for candles, mothballs and gas was extracted by distillation although this was very volatile. In 1846 Davy and Wilkin of Totnes leased the Redlake area. In 1859 this was dissolved. A clayworks then followed in 1872 and used the old tramway, but the clayworks had a short life as the felspar had not properly decomposed.
