Mould stone - lower blowing house River Yealm
In the 14th century the blowing house evolved for use in the tin mining industry on Dartmoor. There is a blowing house above Yealm steps by a much used ford. On the left bank above the ford and under the steep slope of Furze Hill, is the blowing house one of the first to ever be properly examined and identified by the Devonshire Association in 1863. There are 2 mould stones each containing 2 mould cavities. Looking down on the mould stone it can be clearly seen in this photograph and the approximate size of the cavity by the thermos flask inside one of them.
