View of village & church, Bishopsteignton
The Parish church of St John the Baptist in Bishopsteignton, near Teignmouth. Historically, the church dates back to pre-Norman times, although the current edifice is predominately Norman, retaining the original font, and decorative stone carving of 'The Adoration of the Magi'. It is regarded as the the best, original exhibits of a Norman church in the Devon area. The church's bell, added to the structure in the nineteenth-century, were cast in the same foundry as the 'Bow Bells' of London. As the original Bow Bells of London were destroyed in the Blitz, the bells at St. John's, Bishopsteighton pre-date those in London.
