West Dart cross

West Dart cross

The cross stands on the northern bank of the West Dart River, near Hurdle Pool and is more or less opposite Little Sherberton Farm. The cross stands on private land belonging to Dunnabridge Farm and permission of the owner should be sought before making a visit. The cross is 4 feet (1.22 metres) tall. This cross looks quite ancient, although it is relatively modern. It was made and erected in about 1929 by Mr Francis Caunter, the then tenant of Dunnabridge Farm, and Mr Jubilee Worth. The cross is a memorial to Christopher Holman Richards, who was drowned in the river near this spot on 19th August 1928.
