The famous nineteenth century explorer Henry Morton Stanley died in 1904 and is buried in the churchyard of St. Michaels, Pirbright in Surrey, near his home. The grave is marked by a large piece of Dartmoor granite- 12ft high, 4ft wide and weighing six tons.
