This picture shows the process used in spliting a piece of granite known as Feather-O-Tare. Holes were drilled into the granite block then the feather put in place with 2 pieces and the tare a peg placed in to the hole which was then hammered in to split the rock. Rocks can be seen on Dartmoor today with the marks made from this technique.
