Blowing House illustration
This shows an illustration of a blowing House, of what it would have looked like. Water is brought by a leat along the side of the hill to the back of the house. Water then passses over a waterwheel for power and into the river below. The blowing house would have contained a small stone cylindrical furnace used for tin smelting. At one time tin mining was an important industry on Dartmoor and ruins of many such houses can be found on Dartmoor beside streams.
