Chagford graveyard - James Perrot's grave

Perrot was the first tour guide of Dartmoor and he lived in Chagford. This is his gravestone in the church graveyard in Chagford with the Three Crowns pub in the background. James Perrot used to guide the first tourists to Dartmoor across the moors and he also was responsible for the first letter box at Cranmere pool centre of the northern moor in 1854. Letterboxing is now a popular hobby on Dartmoor.
