Trywhitt tramway - Leigham tunnel
At the beginning of the 19th century Dartmoor granite, clay and peat needed to be transported and a number of tramways were built. Sir Thomas Tyrwhitt opened a tramway from Princetown to Sutton Pool in Plymouth which was called the Plymouth and Dartmoor Tramway. This tramway had rails and the wagons were hauled by horses. Each mile was marked by a milestone and some of these milestones can still be seen today.
