Coffin Stone
This stone is known as the Coffin Stone and has carved letters and crosses on the surface of the stone. This coffin stone is where bearers of the dead walking to Widecombe church laid down their burden and rested for awhile. The engravings on the stone are higher position - seven crosses and "51 SC AC" and the lower position two crosses and "L? B IP". The first two intials are thought to be someone's name and possible age. The large flat stone has been frost parted.
