May Day Procession
The celebration of May Day begins in the early afternoon at the entrance to the Orchard. From here a canopy of flowers is carried over the May Queen by four canopy bearers as she leads the procession of maypole dancers around the village. The procession of 1933 can be seen in this photograph making its way along Knowle Road towards Brookside. The May Queen's crown of fresh flowers can be seen to the right of the photograph, being carried on a cushion.
