William Rice (1852 - 1933)

William Rice was born in Cheriton Bishop. His life-long job was as a carter and carrier. A carter and carrier transported goods using horse drawn vehicles. Legend has it that Rice was so good at his job that he could transport goods on a round trip between Lustleigh and Exeter in just one day. William Rice was also a Lustleigh Bellringer for 50 years and held the position of tower captain for 25 years.
